Today is #TimeToTalk Day. Time to talk about Mental Illness. Time to share with your friends, your family, really anyone around you the issues and stigma surrounding mental illness. It’s time to end that stigma.
When I started I Lay Reading, the mission was simple: Read books, Review Books, LOVE BOOKS. It’s no secret around here that I am pretty obsessed, and I read fast, right? I just wanted to share that passion with everyone else. And at its core, that will always be what ILR is–a book blog.
But, in 2015, I hit a depression episode like I have never seen before. And I was diagnosed with GAD, General Anxiety Disorder. Suddenly, everything in my life made sense. Every decision, every non-decision for that matter, every battle I have fought has been because of my mental illness.
There is so much stigma surrounding mental illness. People hide it from even the closest people in their lives because of the fear of rejection. I hate that. I have enough of a fear of failure already, enough anxiety. I say NO MORE. The only way I know how to fight this brain disease is to talk about it, write about it. So that is what I’m doing. Along with the books I review, I also write about mental illness.
Don’t be surprised to see Mindful Monday posts describing a bad day I had or what I do to help with Self-Care. Freaky Fridays are usually reserved for something fun, but you never know what I’ll come up with.
